TEMPLE EMUNAH EVENTS
Boldly go where no synagogue has gone before! This Selihot, Saturday evening September 4, the Temple Emunah and Temple Isaiah communities will come together at Temple Emunah for a screening of of "The Enemy Within," an episode from the original Star Trek series. Following the screening, the clergy of the two congregations will facilitate a discussion about the episode and the nature of our human inclinations as we enter this season of repentance. Monday Morning Ride with the Rabbi - Labor Day Special. Ride with Rabbi Lerner at 6:30 AM for the usual 21 mile ride starting at his home at 5 Blossom St. OR a 50+ mile ride starting at 8:30 AM from Lester Blumberg's house at 68 Farmcrest Ave., Lexington. RSVP to Lester at

On September 13, there will be a 21 mile ride from Rabbi Lerner's home at 6:30 AM.Please join our Shabbat afternoon study. The next 2 weeks September 4, and September 11, at 6:45, the topic will be Mahzor Lev Shalem: The New High Holy Day Prayer Book. This week, Rabbi Lerner will teach. Next week, our teacher will be Scott-Martin Kosofsky, the designer and producer of the new Mahzor, who lives and and works right here in Lexington. To donate a Mahzor Lev Shalem in honor or memory of a loved one, download the form, fill it out, and return to the synagogue office.
Our summer series of lay service leaders and speakers continues through September 11. Rabbis Lerner and Jacobs will be back on the bimah as service leaders, and Mike Rosenberg will speak about "Changing Times". Many of this summer's wonderful talks are now on the shul website.
Mitzvah Initiative Opening Lecture - The Mitzvot of Tzedekah and Tikun Olam, with Rabbi Marci Jacobs, Sunday September 12, 9:45 - 11:00 AM. Join us for this program, which will include interactive text study and discussion. This is the first in our year-long Mitzvah Initiative series.

Ivrit la Kol/Hebrew for All is beginning its 14th year on Oct 3. Classes are held at all skill levels in several areas including: Fundamentals of Hebrew, Biblical Hebrew and Modern Hebrew (conversational Hebrew). There are seven 90 minute sessions held in the fall, winter and spring. The instructors are highly trained and have many years of experience teaching adults to learn and expand their Hebrew skills. Wednesday Morning Study - Over a light breakfast, Rabbi Lerner and Rabbi Jacobs teach about the Halakhah (Jewish legal) and spiritual aspects of prayer. We continue studying the laws of the morning service and other laws and customs regarding our prayer practices. Join us each week after minyan for breakfast and learning. Minyan is 7:00 AM -7:30 AM and breakfast follows from 7:35 AM - 8:15 AM.

The Lexington Interfaith Garden is in full swing, now giving about 100 pounds of vegetables each week to the Lexington Food Pantry for distribution to needy families in the area. On our August dates Temple Emunah harvested cucumbers, potatoes and string beans and planted lettuce and brocolli. Our fall assignments are all Tuesdays: September 21, October 12, October 26 and November 16, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. Remember to contribute brown rice and/or whole wheat crackers to Family Table when you come to Temple Emunah this summer, other than on Shabbat! With fewer activities in the building during the summer, your contributions are particularly appreciated.

Spend a High School Semester in Israel. Tichon Ramah Yerushalayim (TRY) and the USY High School Programs invite prospective students and parents to an information session about the spring semesters '11 & '12, on Wednesday, September 15, 7:00 PM, at the Long Home, 65 Sylvan Ave, Newton. Guest Speaker: Daniel Laufer, Director of Ramah Jerusalem High School. The programs are for grades 10 - 12, and feature high level academics and full high school credit. ReachOut! is a chance for young Jewish professionals in their 20s and 30s to volunteer in communities across Greater Boston and to develop friendships through shared learning and Jewish experiences. The upcoming session will run from the week of October 4th through the week of December 7th with groups of volunteers (10 per site) serving at various locations one evening a week. Volunteers have a variety of tracks to choice from, ranging from helping the homeless to working with teens, the elderly and assisting with adult education. Registration is open for LimmudBoston - October 30-31 at Temple Israel, 477 Longwood Avenue, Boston. LimmudBoston is a cross-communal festival of Jewish learning, with workshops and presentations for all generations, and all members of the Jewish community. It starts on October 30 at 7:30 PM with havdalah and entertainment, and continues all day October 31. Genesis Forum is a free Wednesday noontime series of text study at CJP, with eight renowed Jewish educators. See the website for details.
This year's Boston Jewish Film Festival runs from October 26 to November 16. The festival features independent films from all over the world that focus on the Jewish experience. Screenings will be held in Arlington, Boston, Brookline, Danvers, Foxboro, Framingham, Randolph and West Newton. Looking for a way to get involved? Volunteer!
