Sephardic Melodies: Theme Night at Minyan

Many of the lyrics for our prayers were composed by Sephardim. For example, Dror Yikra is attributed to Dunash ben Labrat (915-970) in Cordoba Spain. Other examples are in the Kabbalat Shabbat Service, such as Lecha Dodi and Yedid Nefesh. Have you enjoyed singing Sephardic melodies at our Services? Listen to this familiar rendition of the latter.

Cinco de Mayo” — the 5th of May holiday in Mexico — has become associated with Latin Culture.  To celebrate this holiday, we will have a Theme Night at Minyan on Wednesday, April 25 at which you will learn several melodies in the Sephardic Tradition — a tradition associated with Jews whose backgrounds were from the Iberian Peninsula. These melodies will be used at the Minyan Katan Shabbat Service on May 5, 2018.

Come to learn, sing, or just listen! No experience is necessary. You need not be a strong singer; this is simply for your enjoyment! For questions or if you are interested in assisting with this Theme Night after Minyan, contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
