Me'ah Select with Rabbi Leonard Gordon

From Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar, to Joseph, Moses, Miriam, King David, and the Queen of Sheba, biblical figures loom large in classic stories of Christians and Muslim. Do these shared stories connect us, divide us, or both? In this class - Shared Stories: The Afterlife of Biblical Heroes and Heroines in the New Testament and Quran, we will offer a basic introduction to Christianity and Islam as we read these fascinating stories. We will also address several larger issues, such as the nature of the Bible as a literary work of art and the shifting political and religious roles of prophet, judge, priest, and king over Books of Samuel. This class will meet at Temple Isaiah on Mondays, 9:30 AM - Noon, starting February 11, 2019.
